WHAT LARKS: It was my first time at Lark in the Park at Sidcup Place, which is put on voluntarily and for free by Sidcup's Churches Together.
I invited my friends along. One man from my own church in Bexleyheath came in his wheelchair with his wife and enjoyed two hours of great entertainment.
It took his mind off of a forthcoming operation, I'm sure.
A Jewish friend joined me at short notice and enjoyed old-time favourites over free tea and home-made cakes served by young volunteers in the over 60s tent.
A young magician visited each table, to the joy and delight of all.Other friends who took up my invitation included a Kenyan, a doctor friend from Chad in Africa and a South African group called I Themba which visits Bexley each year.
I happened to request the group pray for the doctor as he has arthritis.
Without second thoughts the leader gathered the whole group around him and prayed for him a wonderful prayer.
It really touched my friend. He later told me he had no seen his mother and family for 28 years.
I am now aiming to raise money for a future visit for him, thanks to Lark in the Park's inspiration.
I even entered a talent competition and was put into the stocks by two of the judges. What fun.
I also joined in the salsa dancing alongside Sidcup road sweeper Andy. Hilarious. A great two weeks.

NEIGHBOUR NONSENSE: I was saddened to read the letter from Mr and Mrs Wadey (Be Warned, News Shopper, August 20) in which they recorded the lengths they felt it necessary to go to suppress the use of their neighbours' garden.
I am put in mind of an occasion a few years ago when I was asked for my view on my neighbour's plans to extend the lowered pavement outside my house, to double it in effect, to grant my neighbour similar vehicle access.
I told the planning officer the change did not affect me so I could not possibly have objections.
The planning officer seemed stunned. When I queried his surprise, he said it was the standard response of neighbours to oppose virtually everything.
Now I was stunned. Are homeowners that mean and small-minded?

SCOUTING FOR GIRLS: Can anyone explain to me how our Scouting association is allowed to send a group away on a Scouting holiday with three male leaders and no female leader, although they are taking both boys and girls?
I was told by the Scouting Association this is correct. If this is so, why do schools have to have adults of both sexes if supervising a mixed group of children?
