If code not broken, it needs changing

I WAS horrified to read the story headlined Code Of Conduct Was Not Broken (News Shopper, August 20).

If the story is true, then Councillor Lucia-Hennes quite clearly had a conflict of interest which should have been declared.

More appropriately, she should have declined to sit on the licensing sub-committee hearing the application from the Sidcup Snooker Club.

If indeed she did not break the code of conduct, then in my view the code needs changing.

Residents of Sidcup and the Bexley rightly expect their representatives to act according to the highest ethical standards.

Councillor Lucia-Hennes failed to act in a proper manner and the assessment sub-committee's decision is flawed.

The decision of the licensing sub-committee should now be reviewed and re-heard by a newly formed licensing sub-committee.

REG BROWN, Sidcup
