SEVERAL weeks ago I remember reading a story regarding the adult service industry and how News Shopper was no longer advertising services because of people trafficking.
Because it is something I hardly think about, I never even realised these services could perpetuate people trafficking.
I was pleased to read News Shopper was taking a stand and refusing to advertise for this industry. Bravo.
Following this, I read about how some guy thinks it is unfair and perfectly legal for the adult service industry to advertise and how they should be allowed to do so.
I think this gentleman needs to be reminded why this decision was made and, hopefully, upheld.
People trafficking is not only disgusting and disgraceful, it often enslaves young women, some of them only girls, into a life of misery.
They literally become slaves and often have no hope of escape.
There may be some businesses which use women who consent to selling themselves, but the fact something such as people trafficking exists is a stain on humanity.
Just because advertising or running a business like this might be legal does not make it right.
Also, if this man does not use these services, why should he care whether or not it is fair?
I hope this does not turn into a situation where the decision is reversed.
