MAY I take this opportunity to
respond to Bill Mason, of Dunbar Avenue, Beckenham, regarding parking permits (Permits Are Privileges, News Shopper, April 30). I do not believe he fully appreciates what a resident parking permit is.
What it is not is a permit which allows me to park anywhere in Bromley borough.
It is a permit which allows residents to park in the road in which they live during certain restricted hours in the day.

Over the past few years, Bromley Council has decided to restrict parking between certain hours in various roads in the borough.
Therefore, in roads with restricted parking, no-one - not even residents - can park their car all day long unless they have bought a parking permit.
Thus, as my car is invariably parked in the road during the restricted times each day, I have to display a correct parking permit.
Therefore, I do not have a choice but to buy a parking permit.
I trust you would agree to have such a permit is not a privilege.
