FOLLOWING concerns expressed about Holocaust education in the UK (Holocaust Exclusion Is Absolute Disgrace, News Shopper, April 30), we would like to make clear, to our knowledge, the Holocaust is and will remain a mandatory component of the National Curriculum for history as it has been since 1991.
The British Government has firmly supported Holocaust education in UK schools, and in February this year it announced the continuation of Government funding for the Holocaust Educational Trust's Lessons from Auschwitz project, which includes a one-day visit to the former Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
This funding has already enabled almost 3,000 students to visit Auschwitz over the past 18 months.
