IN ANSWER to Mike Milford's letter (Am I Missing The Point Of Cyclists Going On Trains, News Shopper, April 9), why doesn't Mike ask a train passenger with a bike the next time he sees them?
I know why I use a train to carry my bike - the same reason Mike Milford uses a train - to get to a certain destination faster.
Then I cycle off when I get there.
Shouldn't Mr Milford be writing to train companies to ask them to provide separate carriages for bikes to be stacked, so people with bikes wouldn't upset other passengers.
This I would wholeheartedly support.
As a person who has cycled for the past 30 years, I find myself having to continuously defend cycling.

Cycling in this country is 130 years old.
People who cycle should not have to defend their right to use a train, the road or cycle paths, whether it is strange behaviour to other people or not.
Cycling is the solution to many of today's problems, such as obesity and climate change.
We need to encourage more children and adults to cycle and for people not to be so negative towards cycling, as we seem to be at the present time.
Two-thirds of car journeys are less than five miles, so let's stop being negative.
Cycling is a sustainable form of transport, it is enjoyable, healthy and after all a bike is only an aid to walking.
