I NOTED with interest - in mid-April - Bexley Council's magazine was advising belatedly of March bin collections.

Par for the course, but it set me thinking of the other erroneous material contained in the magazine.

The Bexley magazine is full of self-praise as it extols its awards, green policy and devotion to the environment.

No mention is made of the true cost of these policies to both the environment and ratepayers.

For example, no mention is made of the cost of all the extra bin lorries needed or the cost to the environment of producing and running them.

Nor is any mention made of the cost of the numerous plastic doorstep bins and the harm their production causes the environment.

What of the cost of producing the hot water now needed to clean jars, tins and other items.

The last straw was being stuck behind yet another bin lorry for seven minutes, while a young mother strapped her child into a pushchair.

Without the environmental hold up, I and many others would have passed her in less than a second. The council's green policy is a myth.

Whilst not completely agreeing with Grahams point of view I could add that there is a further environmental cost.

As I seem to be having constant problems in getting all my, now 5 bins, emptied and call the council to come back to do the job properly, this extra transport adds to the less than green footprint being laid down by our council.
