FOLLOWING concerns about Holocaust education (Holocaust Shame, News Shopper, April 30), we would like to make clear, to our knowledge, the Holocaust will remain a mandatory component of the National Curriculum.
DO YOUR DUTY: Regarding Councillor Glen Handley's letter (MP Has Some Cheek To Tell Us What To Do, News Shopper, April 16). I find it hard to believe how hypocritical he could be. Surely he and other councillors should be ascertaining the views of the residents who will be affected by the tower instead of doing nothing. It is not just the tower but the overall prospective development which is outrageous and if publications bring it to the notice of the public, so much the better. Why are Gravesham councillors not doing their duty to their
constituents?
CLEAN UP: It was with great disappointment when walking to Swanley station recently I noticed the amount of rubbish lying about. We live in a lane and every week my husband goes out and collects the rubbish in front of our house and along the road a little way, which is mostly thrown out of cars. In the towns it is even more prevalent. Could we all not clear it up outside our own homes, do a little to help the environment and have some pride in our streets?
IN ANSWER to Mike Milford's letter (Am I Missing The Point Of Cyclists Going On Trains, News Shopper, April 9), why doesn't Mike ask a train passenger with a bike the next time he sees them?
I LIVED for 50 years in Hither Green before moving to Deeping Gate near Peterborough, and at the time of the bombing of the Sandhurst Road school was evacuated to Sayers Croft School at Ewhurst, Surrey.
DECISION MADE: I for one did not receive the consultation document for A Picture of Health. And the poor response to the said document is not surprising. The powers that be have made up their minds. It does not matter what the general
public say, they are not going to listen. Have they given an ounce of thought to sick patients being ferried around, or spending hours on public transport, which will be two or three buses for some people? No. We cannot all afford a cab.
I COULD not believe what I saw recently - a woman driver was going down Southborough Lane, Petts Wood, using her mobile in one hand and smoking a cigarette in the other, while steering with her elbows.
