Robbers failed to break into safe

9:41am Thursday 22nd February 2001

ROBBERS, who raided a newsagent in Croxley Green on Tuesday, made off with just three packets of cigarettes.

The two unmasked men rushed in to the post office area of Forbuoys in Baldwins Lane, Croxley Green, near Rickmansworth, at 5.30pm.

They began attacking the safe with a metal object but did not manage to open it and made off a few minutes later with three packets of cigarettes from a shelf.

It is not thought anything else was stolen.

The men are described as black and aged between 20 and 30 years old. One of them was wearing a black Russian-style hat with ear flaps and a peak.

Eye witnesses saw three black men outside the shop just before 5.30pm.

The men may have used a blue Toyota Celica car as their getaway vehicle. A car of that make was seen parked in Sherbourne Way at the junction with Recton Lane, minutes before the robbery.

Police are appealing for more witnesses to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Peter Rogers at Watford Three Rivers CID said: "We would particularly like to hear from anyone who saw the men in the Toyota Celica. We need to know where they went after the robbery and to trace the vehicle."

Anyone with information should contact the police on 01923 472000.
