I WAS interested to note in recent weeks News Shopper has stopped publishing advertisements for adult services and some debate has been generated from this policy.
Personally, I have never used the services carried in these advertisements, but would like to point out they are legal - within certain constraints.
By refusing advertising space to such individuals, you may expose yourselves to legal challenges.
There will always be those who object to such services, whether it be on moral, religious or legally technical grounds.
But I feel unless it can be shown a law is being broken by those wishing to advertise such services, they have as much right to column inches as anyone else.
Your paper has editorial privileges, principles and guidelines, but in my opinion these advertisements are at least as legitimate as the handyman ads where the person is taking the cash in their back pocket with scant regard to Her Majesty's Customs and Excise.
I would urge you to reconsider your position and allow this group of legal services to advertise along with the others who, at the end of the day, are paying the same money for unquestioned advertising space.
You may print this opinion if you wish, but somehow I doubt you will.
