This month February, three people from Box Clever Theatre attended Bromley High (Miles, Riad and Lateshia) to give a great rendition of Macbeth. The workshop incorporated a variety of different things such as music, dance, as well as acting of course. There was also a chance for a few students to also have a go at acting themselves and try a few of the combat moves taught by Rias – one of the performers.

After the workshop I was able to catch up with Lateshia – another one of the performers who was able to give me more information on her other two colleagues, herself as well as how life is in the performing arts industry in addition to advice she has for younger people who are considering advancing into performing  as a future career.

When talking to Lateshia, she explained that sometimes they have up to two performances a day at different schools. However Riad, Miles and she are not necessarily always able to be together due to the different timings and schedules. Moreover, in reference to rehearsals – they only had two weeks at most to know Macbeth – although it was a short space of time they definitely delivered a tremendous performance. On the contrary due to the fact that they perform Romeo and Juliet all the time – they had longer as it is requested more however the choreography never changes so everything stay the same- they don’t need to continuously be rehearsing.

Lateshia herself said that she always knew she wanted to do Drama when older, she had done both Drama GCSE and A-level as well as attending Guilford Acting School – she mainly specialises in acting and dancing as well as a bit of singing which we were able to hear during the Macbeth performance- she sounded very good if I may say so myself. Her colleague Riad specialises in acting and stage combat and her other college Miles specialises in acting and singing.

Lateshia advised that as a young potential performer you should be confident that this is the career path you wish to take because you will face rejection; however continue to be passionate, do everything you can to achieve your goals, stay motivated.
