Londoners raging with new bus messages, is the bus really moving?

Warning! The new London bus messages are driving London citizens crazy. “Please hold on the bus is about to move”, this supposed message is meant to help people on the bus to stay safe when really it is pestering them when it is played every 2 minutes. Is this message really needed on public transport?

However, TFL only believe they’re doing it for our safety and looking out for their citizens. They’re clearly monitoring this as a trial. This trial is to reduce the amount of falls and injuries happening on public buses. The injuries on buses cause a large amount of harm “3,000 people were injured each year by falls on London buses” showing a large amount of people on buses become injured badly, this is mainly due to bags in one hand and phone in the other, causing a large distraction. So TFL are only trying to do right by putting a stop to this. On the other hand, the general public disagree massively and think it is extremely pointless.

Twitter has shown a large uproar, one member of the public saying “thanks TFL for telling me when the bus is moving, you don’t think I can feel it myself” cause a massive uproar as members of the public see it as a waste as we can all quite clearly feel when the bus is moving making passengers feel quite agitated. Although, some passengers have found it extremely useful, due to disabilities, a twitter useful who is in a wheelchair, finds it extremely useful as she knows when to put her wheelchair on lock, not only keeping herself safe and other passengers safe, without it she could be extremely hurt. Meaning the supposedly annoying messages keeping citizens safe. I interviewed Amy Libretto from Hayes School, who often travels by bus, she says that she believes “I think they’re helpful if the bus hasn’t already moved but if the bus is already moving then it’s quite pointless. I think the majority of people on busses have headphones in anyway so won’t hear it”. Overall showing, some people find it useful for keeping us safe, however others find it extremely annoying and irrelevant.

The messages on the buses started off in January 2018, and are currently undertaking a trial period to test out to the public. The following messages are on London buses and just outside London, they say “please hold on the bus is about to move”, in order to prepare for the bus to move. In some cases the buses are already moving. In some cases, people are estimating a revolution within a week. Usually coming within 45 seconds after the bus has started to move. However, TFL has tried to fix the announcements. So, is the new message on buses a pain and useless or do they protect the safety of Londoners?
