University, Is it worth it?

Every year thousands of young adults apply to attend a University. But is it really worth your parents £9,000. At the age of 17, we are expected to decide what career we are doing for the rest of our lives. Isn’t that so much pressure for someone so young to make?

Personally, I have struggled with this decision of what University and what course to do. I have ordered millions of prospectuses, attended thousand’s of open days and devoted half of my life into the decision of university. And still… I am unsure in what to study. Can I ever pick my dream delightful desirable course? A course, that I will devote my entire career too. I believe that this decision is unattainable for a 17 year old to make as well as studying for their A-Levels.

In the past 50 years, University is becoming more of a common choice, students want the “party life” and see it as “the best time of your life”. Do pupils only want to go to University just for the fun part? Is it worth the lumbered amounts of debt? Don’t forget hidden costs – laptops, books and printing – it all adds up.

If you decide going to university is worth all the money you pay for it, you’ve got to think carefully about a few things. I think there are two essential considerations that come into play when weighing up the value of one’s education – choice of subject and the right university. Make sure you study for something you like, remember you’re studying it for three years and even gaining a degree within this field and with the choice of university make sure it feels like home. Are you at the right place?

I know it’s hard, but this is an important decision. Make sure it’s the right one. Is University for you!
