How many times have you woken up in your life, looked in the mirror, and complained about having a bad hair day?

How often do you wish you had nicer, shinier, longer, smoother hair?

How many times have you heard someone else do these things?

The truth is, we’ve all done it – and its nothing to be ashamed of, it’s a part of our daily lives!

But what if… when you looked in the mirror… you didn’t have any hair at all.

What if every time you washed, brushed or even touched your hair it fell out.

Could you imagine how that would feel?

Well… I don’t have to. I’ve had alopecia for the past 7 months. I don’t know when it will stop falling out, or if it will ever grow back. But I still have a chance. I’m one of the lucky ones that does have a possibility of it growing back, albeit a small one.

But, all across the UK and the entire world, there are hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of children whose hair won’t grow back, whose thoughts when they look in the mirror aren’t “I’m having a bad hair day” or “I wish my hair looked better”, they look in the mirror and say “why did this have to happen to me”, and “I wish it would all just come back”.

The 14thof April was National Children with Alopecia day, which is a reminder to all of us how big this issue is – especially when there is a dedicated day for it!

Luckily for people like me with alopecia, there are some amazing charities out there who can help supply real hair wigs and help support children going through all the stresses that come with losing your hair.

The Little Princess Trust is one of those incredible charities that helps children access free wigs to help get them back on track to becoming themselves again after hair loss. They supply wigs to cancer patients, and other children who suffer with an illness causing their hair to fall out like alopecia.

They have helped so many people over the years since the charity has been set up, and they have now started up a sister company called Hero by LPT which does exactly the same thing, but appeals more to boys.

I would implore anyone who wants to help charities to raise money for The Little Princess Trust, and also to brave having their hair cut for charity as well.

Over the years, I have donated my hair twice to the charity to help make wigs for those in need, and now I need them. I want to raise as much awareness about this cause as possible, and get as many people as I can to raise money and donate hair to the Little Princess Trust.

Joanna Rowsell – Shand once said:

“Everyone does their hair in the morning. I put a wig on. That's just what I do. It's not something that enters my day-to-day thoughts… I don't want it to define me”

No one thinks they will ever be in the situation where they lose their hair, but sometimes it just happens without any sign.

Just imagine if it was you that was losing your hair.

Would you want to be able to live your life the way you always have, or would you want to spend your life worried that people would judge you for having no hair?

Please help to support such a great cause – it really is worth it. It helps so many people and you never know…

One day, that could be you.
