Picking up dog poo. It’s not a hard task. However, it may seem that some of Hayes’ dog owners think it is, which has attracted the attention of many inhabitants. This poo predicament has caused some residents to compile some posters that can be spotted on lampposts around Hayes. It has also been commented on through Facebook, where many occupants have declared their hatred.

On Facebook, people such as Teresa Barrow have called this ‘Shameful, ignorant and selfish behaviour.’ claiming these dung-dodgers have been ‘spoiling a beautiful area’. Some have been unfortunate enough to come into contact with the waste, Shirley Wheeler stated she ‘stepped in some that an owner obviously couldn’t be bothered to pick up’ when picking up her own mutt’s manure in Pickhurst Park. Nicola Wilson warned ‘poor commuters’ of the dog poo near to the Hayes train station entrance.

Some citizens have gone as far as reminding owners to pick up their dog’s droppings. One states ‘if you leave it on the street, it’ll stick to your feet’ addressing the issue that many inhabitants have already had with this predicament. Another snaps dog owners back to reality with the statement ‘There is no Poop Fairy… Scoop you Poop, Grab it. Bag it. Toss it.’. Yet another questions the reader as to whether they ‘Want to start yoga?’ and carries that forward on advising them with how to start their new habit: ‘start by bending over and picking up your dog poop. Known as downward dog position THEN PUT IT IN THE BIN’.

Hayes citizen’s have spoken up, but this is only a tiny area of the world. This proclamation situation affects people globally, but some have found creative ways to deal with this defacation. For instance, in New York, many have spray painted on or around the droppings. Some have got even more creative, leading to dog poop becoming a common form of street art.

The question is will Hayes’ habits change, or will London become the next New York?
