On 22 April 2017, Danielle Pushkin took part in one of the most difficult, whilst rewarding challenges of her life – the London Marathon. After days, weeks and months of training the day had finally arrived and nobody was more prepared than this talented young woman.

With 26 miles, 285 yards ahead, Mrs Pushkin woke up at 6 a.m. to ensure she was at the starting line when the run began. Pens of participants set off and soon it was time for the most thrilling hours of her life to begin. 3… 2… 1… Go!

Along the journey the runners were enthusiastically encouraged on by the locals, who managed to keep everyone smiling as they came out from their homes in last night’s pyjamas… This view contrasted rather significantly with that of sights of monumental buildings such as Tower Bridge. As Mrs Pushkin affirmed “It was one the most amazing and beautiful things I have seen.  Normally I would not pay much attention to things like that, but when you are alongside a record breaking 40,382 people, you notice all the little aspects of London.’

Mrs Pushkin further added ‘To be with over 40,000 people who all have the same aim – to raise money for those less fortunate provokes a feeling of gratitude that I had never experienced before.’ Mrs Pushkin herself raised an outstanding £2,996.000 for Phabkids, an organisation that enables children and adults with disabilities to enjoy all the challenging aspects of life.

Not only did Mrs Pushkin help save the lives of countless children, she finished the marathon in an astonishing 4 hours 26 minutes. Considering this was her first full marathon and the female world record is 2:17:01 Mrs Pushkin did herself, her family and most importantly the children she helped extremely proud.

With every step she took she was one step closer to completing her goals, one step closer to allowing another child or adult change their life around. I for one will always look up to this determined, resilient and truly inspirational woman.

As she crossed the finish line she was welcomed into the arms of her family and friends who quoted ‘ She looked just as good as when she was just about to set off. She faced the challenge and completed it with ease. She did not stop running and after being told that, we knew all her hard work had paid off. We are all immensely proud.

In the words of Mrs Pushkin ‘It was an unforgettable day. A day I will remember for the rest of my life.”
