Failure to deliver step-free access at the Petts Wood train station in the Bromley borough has been protested today.

Campaigners from Transport for All gathered outside Petts Wood station, to highlight the lack of access for disabled and elderly passengers.

According to the campaigners, station upgrades had been due as part of the Access for All scheme, which aims to improve accessibility for passengers who would otherwise face difficulty getting in and out of train stations.

But with £50million worth of funding deferred, the campaign fears two thirds of the scheme’s projects could be delayed by up to five years.

Disabled people are being shut out of the vast majority of Britain’s railway stations, having to make 40 minute bus journeys to catch the train when some live closer to train stations, leaving them frustrated and isolated.

Re-planning schemes mean that some rail upgrade projects will be delivered later than originally planned, but remain committed to delivering the Access for All programme in full.
