On Thursday the 30th of March, Newstead Wood School held their annual fashion show. It was organized and run by the fashion society which consists of Year 12 students. Since the start of the year they have been working very hard to collate garments and plan for this spectacular event.

The event was run by entirely by students. Around 30 beautifully crafted garments were made by students in years 9-13, who have been working tirelessly on them since November last year. Inspirations for the garments ranged from chemical elements to the chameleon project and some were part of GCSE and A level coursework.

Refreshments were handmade, on the day, by Year 10 food technology students and supported by some year 9 students. Chocolate chip biscuits, pizza rolls and mini burgers were just a selection of the variety of delicious food available.

All the publicity for the fashion show was carried out by Georgina Ward, a Year 13 Product Design student. She designed the posters, tickets, props and was responsible for the twitter page which also has videos uploaded onto it.

All the proceeds from this event will go to Plan International, a global charity which works towards equality across the world especially when it comes to access to education for girls.

I spoke to Mrs Shilling, head of DT, the day before the event and she said, "After 3 months of preparation, with the students making the most exceptional garments etc, there is a real buzz of excitement in the DT department."

The fashion show was an amazing event successfully run by the Fashion society to showcase the exquisite work produced by DT students at Newstead Wood. The hard work, dedication and enthusiasm put into it was evident on the evening.
