The sold out show ‘the Red shoes’ choreographed by Matthew Bourne at Sadler’s Wells was a huge success.

On the 25th of January, GCSE dance students at Dartford Grammar School for Girls were fortunate to have the pleasure to watch the sold out show, ’ the Red shoes’ at Sadler’s Wells.

‘The Red Shoes’ was choreographed by Matthew Bourne and performed by New Adventures and the stunning set and fantastic costumes were designed by Lez Brotherston. The red shoes was based on the well-known film by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, and the Hans Christians Fairy tale.  The evening was delightful and it consisted of 2 acts which was set in London in the late 1940s. The story focuses on a young gifted dancer and her conflicting views on her love for dance and her lover. The breath-taking story takes the audience on an emotional journey which explores the thin lines between fantasy and reality.

The stage production included humorous and imaginative moments on top of the spectacular dancing. The students were particularly impressed with extravagant set which included a revolving stage which helped convey the story. Expectedly, the students at Dartford Grammar School for Girls thoroughly enjoyed the show and was inspired by the magnificent dancing from the company. The Sadler’s well theatre was very welcoming and every student enjoyed watching the show, which made the evening even more enjoyable. The whole audience was captivated by the show and one lady even admitted to watch the show 3 times consecutively in a row!

On the whole, without a doubt ‘the Red Shoes’ at Sadler’s Wells was a dazzling evening which the whole audience would love to see again.
