With 2017 finally here, we have an opportunity to remember those who we lost in the tragic year of 2016, the year that saw the loss of many of our greatest stars.

So here is a list of some of the many celebrities that passed in 2016:

JANUARY

10/01/16-The year kicked off with heart-breaking death of a true music

legend David Bowie, 69, who like many others died of cancer.

14/01/16- Then only 4 days later we lost another 69 year old star, taken from us by cancer too, Alan Rickman, a British actor known for playing Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films and Hans Gruber in Die Hard.

31/01/16- January also saw the departure of Sir Terry Wogan, a television presenter, who won the affection of millions from running his Radio 2 show, for presenting the BBC’s Children in Need program since 1980 and for his hilarious Eurovision commentary.

FEBRUARY

19/02/16- Harper Lee, the reclusive author of How to Kill a Mockingbird died in her hometown in Alabama aged 89.

28/02/16- Irish actor, singer and writer, Frank Kelly who was best known for playing Father Jack in the television series Father Ted, fell victim to a fatal heart attack in February.

MARCH

06/03/16- A former US first lady, Nancy Reagan, died aged 94. She will be remembered for her "Just Say No" anti-drugs campaign.

08/03/16- The man known as the “Fifth Beatle”, Sir George Martian was a record producer, sadly passed this year aged 90.

31/03/16- The celebrated entertainer Ronnie Corbett died aged 85 after suffering from motor neurone disease which he had been diagnosed with in 2015.

APRIL

20/04/16- This year we lost Victoria Wood, the five-time Bafta winning actress and comedian. She was a truly hilarious and brilliant woman, who died from cancer at 62.

21/04/16-Then, only one day later the world lost a big star, from an opioid overdose. The iconic singer Prince died at only 57 years of age.

MAY

24/05/16- The Pink Panther actor Burt Kwouk unfortunately died peacefully age 85.

JUNE

03/06/16- Muhammed Ali, one of the most significant and celebrated boxers/sports figures of all time, was taken from us in early June. He had many nicknames used to describe is boxing- the most famous of which being “The Greatest”.

16/06/16- June saw the murder of the Labour MP Jo Cox, who was the victim of a "targeted attack" causing her death at only 41 years of age.

JULY

02/07/16- In the month of July we lost Caroline Aherne, a popular British comedian, who suffered from cancer for a number of years.

AUGUST

13/08/16- In August, the 3ft 8in tall Kenny Baker, who starred as R2-D2 in the Star Wars films, died of cancer.

28/08/16- It also saw the death of another actor: Gene Wilder, the star of many Mel Brooks comedies and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

SEPTEMBER

25/09/16- Arnold Palmer, an American golfer regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time, died aged 87.

OCTOBER

14/10/16- Jean Alexander died aged 90, she had starred in Coronation Street for 23 years.

NOVEMBER

07/11/16- This year we lost the Canadian singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen, most famous for his song “Hallelujah”.

07/11/16- Also on November 7. Sir Jimmy Young, who was one of the first Radio One DJs when the channel was launched in 1967, died aged 95.

DECEMBER

08/12/16- John Glenn, the former US senator and American space pioneer, died aged 95 years old.

25/12/16- On Christmas Day of 2016 George Michael, we lost half of the pop duo Wham!. He died aged 53, of a suspected heart failure, though was said to have gone peacefully.

27/12/16- Carrie Fisher made famous for her role of Princess Leah in the Star Wars films, but has also recently become known as an accomplished writer.

28/12/16- Then only a day later, Carrie Fisher’s Mother, Debbie Reynolds, also an actress died. Debbie Reynolds will forever be remembered for her starring role in Singin’ in Rain.

They will all be greatly missed.
