“Once we reached our worst point, we just walked straight through it” Sam Baker, stroke seat of the winning IM3 quad- a four-person boat.  The crewmembers were a very successful team: Sam Baker who sat stroke seat, bronze medallist at British junior rowing championships. Jake Offiler, gold medallist at national schools event, sitting behind. With Callum Sullivan following, double gold medallist with GB junior rowing team at Coupe de la Jeunesse. Finally his brother Dominic Sullivan, sitting in bow seat steering the boat, gold medallist at Scullery.

Docklands headrace is an annual event that takes place at Royal Albert Docks. Neighbouring clubs travel to the dock to compete in a time trial within their age or ability category. IM3 is usually considered one of the hardest categories with only adults that compete. However, the boy’s quad went beyond the conventional crew by having a crewmember as young as 15 and phenomenally blowing their completion out of the water with their time.

The winning quads club is globe-rowing club; in 2008 it became a partnership with London Youth Rowing, which tremendously support the junior rowers.

With the freezing temperatures and strong winds the conditions were treacherous but “It was the 2012 Olympics that inspired me to start rowing.” Jake Offiler. And with that mentality, it leads Jake and the rest of his crew to achieve great accomplishments.
