Why breakfast is the most important part of the day? Amaki Doku Farringtons School

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it is the first meal we have when we wake up. When we are asleep we are fasting hence the name breakfast because we break the fast from the night before. If we do not have breakfast we cannot concentrate, our body just runs on body fat which can be dangerous sometimes.

Our body needs nutrition during the first two hours of waking. The main nutrients that we need are calcium, iron to prevent anaemia fibre, and protein.

Many people think eating less or skipping meals will help you to lose weight but rather this can make you put on a lot more than you would want. Skipping meals can lead to grazing. Grazing is eating a lot of snacks in between meals.

If children skip meals it can affect their learning and behaviour in school as some children can become agitated. Children should be encouraged to eat breakfast to provide fuel and oxidation of glucose for the body to function well. Breakfast helps children to concentrate to be efficient, creative, co-operative and to remember what is being taught in the class.

Some people might say that they do not have enough time to make breakfast in the morning but you do not have to a big breakfast. A simple smoothie can be nutritious. Maybe the day before school or work you could prepare your fruit by putting it into the freezer.

Here are some healthy sustainable breakfast recipes that that you can make the day before:

• Avocado and strawberry smoothie

• Porridge with blueberry compote

• Cinnamon oats

• Mango Lassi smoothie

• fruit and yoghurt parfait

• breakfast burrito

Eating breakfast helps you maintain your weight and also helps if you are trying to lose weight. Some people have 7 small meals a day every 3-4 hours a day to keep energy levels up. This also helps with keeping dietary fibres up. All these dishes will give you all the fuel and energy you need your day.

Editorial: In my experience 3 years ago I used to skip breakfast .This made me miserable but I also felt skipping breakfast was a good idea .People could tell by my facial appearance that I had not eaten and my body was just running on excess fat. People during this time would beg me to eat. Sometimes at school when it was time for PE I would run on an empty stomach and this would make me so dizzy. I also use to have really small portions of food and then exercise excessively and burn all the little fat that body needed at that time, so I was pretty much unhealthy. I was on the verge of an eating disorder.

But I am glad to say that eating much healthier can be fun and I have been able to maintain my weight. I have always thought that skipping meals is the best way to lose weight because less can be seen as more. The less you eat can lead to grazing during the course of your day. Especially in the 20st century people think about getting the perfect body but there are safe ways to approach this like eating all the meals a day with the right amount of fiber, nutrition and water a day. You could do 30 minutes of exercise a day. It is all about balancing everything in your diet. It is always good to listen to your body especially when you are hungry.

This year I use an app called 30day fit which is a calendar that has a particular exercise everyday and the number gets higher then lower. So our body does not get tired, the app has rest days. Many of my friends are following many exercise calendars such as Blogilates by Casey Ho. Casey Ho is Pilate’s trainer and she helps many people through her blogs, YouTube channels and recently her app. I must add that I admire my friends for helping me to eat well and to maintain my weight. It is very encouraging that my friends are also doing Blogilates it helps me to keep on going.
