On Saturday 24th November, Our Lady of the Angels Church put on a fun filled, family outing, the Church Bizarre, the overall aim was the raise money for a group of young Altar Servers to go to on a religious trip to Rome and the rest of the money used to fund the church throughout the upcoming year. Many regard the experience as “A fun, filled and memorable experience”. The Bizarre started at 12:00pm and ran throughout the day until 4:00pm and was located in the Angelus Centre, which is closely linked the Church.

There were many events and stalls at the Bizarre and the wonderful thing is the whole team of organisers for the Bizarre were volunteers from the local church community. “I enjoyed, working at the Bizarre, I feel it brought the Church community closer together and people I had never even spoke to before, I have now know thanks to Bizarre”. The variety of stalls at the Bizarre ranged from a bottle stall to an African food stall, many others included: the toy stall, teddy bear stall, Christmas card stall, lucky dip, cake stall, tombola, toiletry stall and a BBQ. It shows, that the day had something on offer for everyone, also as it is coming up to Christmas, one of the main attractions at the Bizarre was a self-made Santa’s Grotto, many members from the congregation decided it was important to offer this to the young members of the community and as a result a team of dedicated volunteers built the ‘Winter Wonderland’ in just a few weeks.

In addition, another exciting stall at the Bizarre was, the live music both performed and played, as known the Catholic Church is situated right next to St Fidelis Primary School, and as expected many of students contributed to helping make the day a success. The KS2 Choir performed at the Bizarre and as anticipated were a brilliant addition to the day “I thoroughly enjoyed the performed, it’s wonderful to see such passion about music from primary students”.

Lastly and certainly not least, a soap celebrity also took part in the Bizarre, Dominic Power who plays Cameron Murray, in hit soap Emmerdale got involved in the festivities. He also had a stall at the Bizarre, and signed and took pictures with many of his fans, some of which mentioned “It was amazing to meet Dominic; he is so down to earth and relaxed about everything”.
