THAMES Valley Harriers, on home ground, lifted the Tomlinson Trophy for
the first time since 1984, as the women clocked up another first, as they took bronze medals in the North of the Thames Team Championships.
The Valley's men's quartet performed above themselves over the 8,000 metres, two-lap course around Wormwood Scrubs, spurred on by the earlier success of the women.
With the sticky and muddy conditions, they made a cautious start, and were all in the top group at the end of the first lap, with Dean Clark leading the way he eventually finished fourth.
Steve Norris, Paul Jenkins and Gordon Irvine all finished in the top 20.
