VIDEO: Pupils celebrate best ever GCSE results

THOUSANDS of young people celebrated some excellent GCSE results today.
News Shopper went to The Business Academy in Yarnton Way, Thamesmead, to see how the pupils there got on.

You obviously have a greater grasp of the english language than most people these days, however using it to belittle others takes away from the, "all knowing" persona you obviously like to play online and portrays a more petty,childish one. So, children are leaving school thinking they are something special with their seven A* grades, going to university and either failing miserably or coming out of a socially acceptable course - an ology and then complaining that they have no job!
Is it surprising? They are not encouraged to compete and there cannot be the concept of a winner because the looser might feel bad. Even at the interview for a McJob someone must fail. So, why must we all sit back and allow children to think that current examination levels come anywhere near the high standards of yester year ?
Its stupid to give young people the misconception that they are educated to a standard that is any use whatsoever in society. We should manage their perceptions correctly and teach them the value of getting the customer to order fries with their meal.

If they are so easy how come there are so many U's around.
There have always been thick kids, they didn't used to bother taking exams at all and left school as soon as they could. Nowadays children are encouraged to stay in education even when it will do them no good whatsoever.
I do believe that children should be encouraged but I am not happy that my level of education is being devalued by the constant simplification of the exam system.

We live in a society full of people with differing levels of ability in all aspects of life. You can't make a child more intelligent just by telling them that they can do better. Some children just aren't capable of any better and it isn't their fault. Just because a child is not as intelligent as another doesn't mean that they can't be successful at something. My point was that there is little point in pushing the not so clever (is that better?) into taking exams. Firstly it is a waste of money and secondly it doesn't make that child feel very good about themself when they get a U grade.

I agree. The point i was trying to make is that too many people are quick to dumb down kids because of where they live, one parent familiies, ability on entering school etc. Too many people think that some children don't stand a chance and are therefore not given one!!!! For a child to believe in themself others need to belive in them.At the end of the day it is about progress being made, whatever it is. And an ability to have valuable life skills.

Oops, sorry Sue, did I hit a nerve? I have every right to comment on your literacy skills if I don't feel that they are of a very good standard. You are putting your comments out in the public domain for all to see. If you are too busy/lazy to write correctly then you can expect to be criticised. I don't see how it can take any longer to type correctly than it does to make lots of mistakes. You are not setting a very good example to your small son (or any other child that reads this article) by saying that it is acceptable to post a comment littered with mistakes because you are too busy. I only hope that you are not a teacher or a teaching assistant. I don't see how you can encourage children to do better when your own standards are so low. As I said before there is no excuse for tardiness. It is no wonder that children are leaving school with low levels of literacy if they are being helped by the likes of you.
