When comedian Alan Carr embarks on his next stand-up tour there is one town where he may find himself not very welcome.
The camp TV presenter will not have gained himself many fans in Maidstone, Kent, after he branded audiences there as full of "homophobic narrow-minded morons".
He told the Sun: "They hated me. I never lasted more than seven minutes. And it wasn't just me. If you were black or Asian, you got racist abuse."
He said women too are subjected to offensive remarks by the town dwellers.
Carr, 32, who currently hosts Channel 4's Celebrity Ding Ding, added further insult by adding that, "half the people there can't read".
His slurs have angered residents of the historic county town.
One wrote on an internet discussion forum: "Why does he keep going back?"
But it is not the first time Carr has spoken out about Maidstone.
He slammed the town in April last year in an interview with Metro.
He added: "I've never had a good show in Maidstone, it's retarded. The first time I played there I had to get a taxi to my car because the audience wanted to beat me up."
