AMDY Faye may still have a role to play at The Valley this season despite Charlton being desperate to offload the midfielder.

Faye was signed from Newcastle by Iain Dowie two years ago for £2m, but has endured a torrid time in SE7 and spent last season on loan at Glasgow Rangers.

Walter Smith decided not to make Faye's switch permanent, giving Alan Pardew a major headache by ensuring the player would return to Floyd Road on a Premiership salary.

Charlton have spent the summer cutting back their finances and ideally would like to get Faye off the wage bill.

However, no concrete bids have arrived for Senegalese player, who came on as a second half substitute in Saturday's 1-0 defeat against Athletic Bilbao, and Pards accepts he could still be in SE7 after the transfer deadline on 31 August.

He said: "I think Amdy Faye's future lies elsewhere, but if he doesn't move before the end of the window then we will try and use the best of Amdy as best we can."

The Addicks boss confirmed he already has a fair idea of who will start against Swansea on Saturday and hinted his options may be further boosted by a new signing before then.

Pardew explained: "In my mind I wouldn't say the team picks itself, but it is pretty close to what you would pick.

"Having said that, there might be an outside chance of one or two bodies coming in this week. A lot of it just comes down to finances.

"We've got players who want to come and managers who would probably welcomingly let the players come as well, but the finances have to weigh up and everybody is tight at the minute.

"The credit crisis has hit football, as it has hit everybody else, and people want value for their money. It is difficult negotiating at the moment.

"We are trying to do as best we can the best deal to get the best players we can in."
