BEXLEY under-15 girls' cricket team has bounced back to start the season after its future was thrown into doubt.
The team didn't compete at all last year and many of its former members opted to represent other boroughs instead while the uncertainty continued.
However, it was decided to regenerate the team for the current campaign and after the first match away at Dulwich was rained off, the season finally got under way with an away game at Hayes Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Although Bexley eventually lost the match by 58 runs, some fine performances were produced, especially by captain Rebecca McWhinnie, who claimed two early wickets, and Kayleigh Roscoe top scoring with six.
The team is drawn from girls attending Bexley schools aged between 11 and 15 and the final result was Hayes 103-7 and Bexley 45-7.
Both teams struggled to raise an 11 player team and a nine-a-side match was eventually played.
