Action from the derby clash at Princes Park
Action from the derby clash at Princes Park

KENT Ravens kicked off their season at Princes Park Stadium with a very entertaining 14-14 draw against Greenwich University in a friendly in front of 156 excited fans.

The game started fairly quickly and Greenwich had the first chance to break the deadlock.

However, some good defending by the Ravens prevented any score being conceded.

Almost immediately, the Ravens took the lead with a try from Stuart Leppard and Aiden Oakley duly slotted the goal to give Kent Ravens a six point lead.

Greenwich were not out of the game and this proved to be the case when they managed to cross the try line and reduce the deficit to two points.

But the Ravens were determined not to let the opposition get a stranglehold on the game and took a 10 point lead into half-time when captain Oakley scored the team's second try.

The heat appeared to take its toll slightly in a second half in which Greenwich got themselves firmly back into the game.

It started brightly with Ross Bailey scoring a try on his debut for the Ravens, which gave them a 14-4 lead.

However, Greenwich clawed their way back into the match and snatched a draw towards the end.

Despite not winning, Kent Ravens go into next Saturday's opening league match against Norwich Saxons in high spirits with a lot of positives to take from this match.

The game is again at Princes Park Stadium in Dartford, kick-off 2.30pm.

Kent Ravens are looking to beat the attendance figure from the game against Greenwich, so why not come along and cheer them on?
