New duo in place at bowls club

BLACKHEATH & Greenwich Bowls Club started the season with two new presidents.

Ken Cave takes over the men's section and his wife Doris assumes the role for the ladies.

Ken is celebrating his 40th year at the club and last year he and Doris celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

After two friendly victories at Forest Hill and Gravesend, B&G took on Brittanic House in the Shepherd Neame League and came away with a convincing 7-0 win by 118 shots to 43.

In their second league match at Eltham, they lost 5-2 (71-77 on shots) with only two winning rinks from Tom Beesley and Paul Field.

At the EBA national double fours, the B team lost away to Sidcup by nine shots.

There was a narrow two shot victory in the Kent CBA Molly Cleggett double fours where the ladies against Bostal Heath.

New president Doris Cave skipped the home rink to a 23-9 victory, covering the 12 shot defeat suffered by the away team.

In the EBA national over-55 pairs, there was a 23-19 win for Bob Payne and Del Field against South Hill Wood.

Harry Gregory and Val Harris (Eltham BC) lost by 25-11 shots in the EBA Mixed pairs to Dave King and Ann Saunders of RBS.

Graham Booth slipped up in the over-55s singles against Pat Conner (Bellingham), losing 21-15.
