Darts aim to keep their nerve

Brendon Cass struck in the 78th minute to cancel out Michael Steward's opener for Bury seven minutes earlier to earn the Darts a share of the spoils.

Despite dropping two points in their race for the title, Sawyer had few complaints with the outcome afterwards.

He said: "We've been on an impressive run of late and knew Bury would be a difficult game, so a point a piece was a fair result.

"The weather conditions weren't perfect but we can't blame this. The boys gave it their all and are now looking towards the next match."

Sawyer, alongside manager Tony Burman, take the Darts to Enfield Town on Saturday and are expecting a similar level of competition to last weekend.

He explained: "Enfield, just like any other team in the top half of the league, are pushing for a play-off position so we are going there with the expectation of a tough match.

"They have a new manager so their players will be looking to impress.

"Our team needs to be aware of this and deliver a performance worthy of taking home the three points.

"We beat Enfield comfortably earlier in the season, however, every game's a new game and we can't read anything into previous results.

"As a team we set the target of gaining three points from every match.

"I know we've been scoring a lot of goals this season, but if a 1-0 result is what it takes to get the win then we will take it."

Sawyer shared some good news with Darts fans by revealing Jay May will be back in the squad for Saturday's game after serving his suspension.

However, Eddie McClements is doubtful to play while Brad Potter is definitely out.

The assistant manager also spoke about losing out on the signing of a player last week.

He said: "He was just a player we were interested in and missing out on his signature isn't a major concern.

"At the moment we are more than happy with the squad, but if someone was to catch our eye we would look into striking a deal."
