HIGH-FLYING Dartford may be on the verge of signing a new player before their game against Bury Town on Saturday.

Nothing is set in stone, but the league leaders have been in discussions with a player and the transfer could potentially go through tomorrow.

Assistant manager Paul Sawyer said: "Tony has made an enquiry about a certain player and a deal is in the pipeline.

"If it happens then the player could be involved in the game at the weekend."

It would be a welcome acquisition for the Darts who could be without injury doubts Eddie McClements and Brendon Cass for the trip to Ram Meadow.

Sawyer is not expecting an easy game against the play-off hopefuls.

He said: "They are a good young footballing team and have improved a lot this year and could cause us problems.

"As long as we stay focussed and concentrate on our game, we should get the result we need."

In a nervy game against struggling Waltham Forest last Saturday, it took the Darts 90 minutes to open the scoring.

However, Sawyer insists it was good performance against a stubborn Forest.

He said: "It was a game which on another day we would have won convincingly.

"We started well and had a stonewall penalty ignored by the ref.

"As the game went on Waltham started to grow in confidence.

"They raised their game like many teams do against us and they were hard to break down."

He added: "The most important thing is we didn't panic even when it looked like the goal wouldn't come.

"The belief remained throughout the whole game.

"We create a lot of chances in most games and know it is just a matter of being patient."

Although Dartford are sitting pretty at the summit of the league with only nine games remaining, Sawyer refused to get drawn into promotion talk.

He said: "I know its cliche, but we are not getting carried away with our league position.

"After each result we just focus on the next game because this is how we have got to the top of the league."
