DARTFORD boss Tony Burman says he has some sympathy for Jay May after the striker was dismissed in the first half of last night's FA Cup replay win at Camberley.

May lost his temper and retaliated against a Camberley defence who had targeted him from the kick-off.

Despite playing most of normal and extra time with 10 men, Dartford held their nerve in the penalty shootout to win 4-1 following a 0-0 draw.

May saw the late drama unfold from the stands and will now serve a three-game suspension starting against Great Wakering Rovers on October 16.

Burman said: "Jay was taking a lot of punishment out there and unfortunately, the match officials did nothing to protect him.

"The Camberley defence were intent on winding him up to get a reaction and they succeeded.

"I don't condone or support what Jay did, but there is part of me which can understand it."

The manager was delighted to progress to the next stage and even though the outcome was finally decided on penalties, Burman feels justice was done.

He explained: "It was a good night for us and I thought we were definitely the better of the two sides.

"I wasn't nervous when it went to penalties because we had looked comfortable all evening and had put a lot of hard work into the game.

"When you do put the work in, more often than not you will find you get what you deserve."

Dartford's reward for the win is a derby meeting with Blue Square South side Bromley and Burman sees no reason why the Darts can't upset the odds.

He said: "It is a great draw for us and everyone is looking forward to it.

"They are really flying at the moment, but it is the FA Cup and anything can happen."

The game will be given an extra edge because Dartford target Junior Kadi has returned to Hayes Lane to help solve an injury crisis for the Lillywhites.

Kadi, who had linked up with the Darts on a temporary basis, was involved in Bromley's FA Cup games with Aylesbury on Sunday and last night, but Burman is confident he will be back at Princes Park sooner rather than later.

He said: "He is still there at the moment and we had a verbal agreement allowing him to go back to Bromley at any time should they need him, which is what happened.

"The FA Cup has kind of stuttered Junior's time here because it is league games we have him for and we don't have one for a couple of weeks now.

"We aren't playing this Saturday because we have a bye in the FA Trophy."
