A MEMBER of Britain’s Olympics 2012 team will be putting students at St Matthew Academy in Blackheath Academy through their paces on Friday.

Champion boxer Hannah Beharry is set to visit the school as part of a Sky Sports sponsored scheme to get young people active in sports.

She will be using her own remarkable story to inspire and motivate a group of students from Year 10.

In 2004, at the age of 17, Beharry found herself in a downward spiral, living a life of crime, with no education and facing an unimaginable future.

In 2005, a frustrated and volatile teenager, she stepped into one of London's most prominent boxing clubs All Stars with the intention to one day represent Great Britain.

She has now been chosen to represent Great Britain on the women’s boxing team, as the sport gains recognition at the Olympics for the first time, and will giving the students tips and exercises to help them improve their fitness.

Head of PE at St Matthew Academy Hannah McKee said: “Our students are really looking forward to being meeting a real-life Olympic athlete.

“Hannah Beharry knows what it is like to work hard to achieve her dreams and she will be able to show our students what they can achieve.”
