CROSSWAYS Sixth Form in Brockley has a newly established football squad competing in the South England Students Sports Association League (SESSA) this season.

The team has been solely funded by the students, as various winners of the Jack Petchy award have used their award money to fund different elements of the side.

London South Bank University also helped the cause by donating a second kit.

The team has drawn students together from different ethnicities and friendship groups and is helping to build relationships and improve social cohesion amongst students at the college.

Students need to meet their academic targets to be able to participate.

Crossways student Masci Hakimyar said: “It’s great for our focus because students need to be up-to-date with their work and our attendance needs to be good for us to have the opportunity to represent the college.”

Crossways FC start their season on Wednesady week (October 12) with a local derby against Southwark College.
