THE Dutch U16 world champion korfball squad is set to visit Bromley on Friday.

Bromley Korfball Club has been given the chance of hosting the squad for a day in recognition for its ongoing commitment to growing and developing the sport in the borough’s schools.

The Dutch youngsters will be visiting two schools, Balgowan and Hayes, with pupils from Wickham Common also invited to attend in the afternoon.

Children from the trio of Bromley schools will all have the opportunity to meet the Dutch players and get tips from their coach before taking part in the annual Bromley korfball school competition.

This year’s event will be overseen by the world beating visiting Dutch squad, as well as the England U19 head coach Corrine Buckland.

Bromley KC head coach Bill Berry said: “We are very proud to have been given this opportunity.

“It is in part the culmination of a number of months of hard work by the club to achieve Sport England’s clubmark quality accreditation.

“We are grateful to Proactive South London, our county sports partnership, who have supported us throughout the process.

“Korfball is a great sport for primary schools, with boys and girls playing in mixed gender teams.

“It’s straight forward to learn and teach and can be adapted to all age groups, but most importantly the children love playing it.”
