TABLE tennis players from Bromley took top honours in the south London regional final of the Jack Petchey Foundation London schools competition.

Hayes School, which hosted the event, won the U16 girls’ event while the U13 girls’ trophy was collected by Newstead Wood School.

Hannah Donnelly, Jemima Marshall, Isabel Nicholls and Emily Smith, all aged 14, made up the Hayes School U16 team.

Smith said: “I have played for four years and mostly play at school.

“I enjoy the adrenalin and the sense of achievement when I win.

“You can show your talent and it keeps you determined to beat other schools.

“This is a great competition and you get to meet new people too.”

Filipa Tunaru, Saffron Wingfield, Aazar Sayyah and Caitlin Chick, all aged 12, formed the Newstead Wood U13 squad.
