Old Colfeians 22-10 Maidstone

OLD Colfeians' largest crowd of the season turned up to watch the last home game of the season.

Numbers were swelled by a pre-match lunch for past players.

Several were still in the clubhouse recounting their own glory days over cheese and biscuits by the time prop forward Adam Hodgkiss opened the scoring for the old boys with a try after only three minutes.

Stand-off James Poole converted to make the score 7-0.

And four minutes later, Poole landed a penalty to extend the lead.

The first half continued to be one-way traffic with flanker Tim Harrison scoring a try after 26 minutes.

Poole again slotted the conversion and at half-time Old Colfeians led 17-0.

While neither side was playing to secure promotion or avoid relegation, it was still a competitive game with pride at stake.

Two minutes into the second half, Maidstone's stand-off Piers Francis scored a penalty to put the visitors on the scoreboard.

It wasn't until the final quarter of the game when there was another score as Maidstone's winger Nik Van Mol scored a try, which Francis converted.

Only one converted try now divided the two sides, which spurred the home team to show extra effort.

With five minutes to go, Old Colfeians' fullback Andy Howard scored a try in the corner to secure victory.

Old Colfeians' final game of the season is on Saturday at Dorking.
