Old Colfeians 31-12 Tunbridge Wells

VICTORY against mid-table Tunbridge Wells secured safety for Old Colfeians in London League Two South next season.

Colfeians played the first half going into a strong wind and under almost incessant rain.

Under these conditions, it was no surprise they played to their strengths and their powerful forwards scored four tries.

The scorers were flanker John Hubbleday, prop Adam Hodgkiss, hooker Tim Harrison and number eight Alan Bateson.

Full-back Andy Howard added two conversions.

In among these scores, Tunbridge Wells' centre Ryan Le Roux managed a try for the visitors as Colfeians led 24-5 at the break.

With the wind behind them in the second half, Old Colfeians seemed content to just play close to the Tunbridge Wells try line and keep them far away from scoring.

Some neat passing among the old boys' forwards enabled Luke Walden to set up Hubbleday to go over for his second try.

Howard converted and the lead was stretched to 31-5.

Tunbridge Wells finally scored a breakaway try at the death through scrum half Luke Baldwin.

The conversion attempt was successful and made the final result 31-12.

Old Colfeians' final home game of the season is on April 12 against Maidstone, kick-off at 3 p.m.
