Shooters Hill 18-12 Rye

SHOOTERS Hill’s RFU Vase visitors Rye from the Sussex League had had a long journey and were somewhat at sea for the first 10 minutes.

Fly half Edmar Vinluan held the stage by slicing through on the right and stepped up to slot a penalty shortly afterwards.

Not content with this, he then put in a long line kick and a succession of penalties brought him within range for a further three points.

No 8 Dave Viney took a tap penalty brushing defenders aside and scoring under the posts for Vinluan to convert.

Shoots lost a lineout but a forward drive saw Viney charge ahead again before the visitors ended the half with a solitary try.

Rye rallied, scoring on the left but the result was never in doubt.

Viney chased more ground when unmarked at the lineout, fly half Harry Barham slipped to Mike Smith whose side step brought him a try but another attack saw the ball lost near the line.

Rye had a good 10 minute period as they worked their way up the line but passing was poor and Shoots kept up the pressure on the visitors’ line for a deserved victory.

Shoots return to league duty against Southwark Lancers this weekend at home.
