Combe boost survival hopes in West Country

First published in Sport

WESTCOMBE Park enjoyed a welcome 17-5 win at Lydney on Saturday.

The victory was well-earned and built around a complete team effort, taking scoring opportunities when on offer, as well as a stirring second half defensive display.

All the scores coming in the first half.

Lydney opened with a try for winger Josh Hannam in the second minute.

It went unconverted, but at least stung Combe into action.

Shortly after Dale Bellinger was over for Combe's first try from a drive from a lineout close to the opposition line.

Luke Giles converted and then slotted a penalty to continue his rich vein of kicking form.

Another lineout drive from Combe saw Jon West over for a try and Giles obliged with the conversion for a 17-5 lead.

The second half was scoreless, but not without incident or effort.

Lydney pounded the visitor’s line but were kept out by Combe's determined and disciplined defence. With Lydney spent, it was Combe who finished the stronger to boost their aspirations for league survival.
