A TEENAGER from Bexleyheath has become one of the youngest qualified rugby referees in the country.
Beths Grammar School pupil Connor Freeman only recently turned 14 but still managed to pass both the level one and two referee exams.
Freeman, who plays rugby for Sidcup RFC’s under-15s, will now officiate in the younger age group games at the club and his school.
He said: “I have always wanted to take my referees badge as I know it would improve me as a player by better understanding the laws of the game.
“I wanted to become one of the youngest referees in the country, which I have achieved and passed with one of the highest scores available.
“The game of rugby is short of referees and I hope this might encourage other kids of my age to take the exam and show they can pass as well.
“Who knows what I might do when I stop playing or if I really begin to enjoy it.
“The youngest referee at a World Cup? Possibly.”
