Greenwich Admirals 34-4 Guildford

FOLLOWING a surprise defeat at the hands of Southampton last week, Greenwich Admirals quickly silenced their critics with a well earned victory over Guildford.

Victory put Greenwich emphatically back on top of the London and South Division - a position they intend to keep.

The first half was a tight and bruising affair in which Greenwich Admirals dominated field position.

Sam Woods eventually broke through with a typical piece of individual brilliance and hand speed which defied the laws of physics for the first try of the game.

Ben Johnson quickly followed with a second, running a line which would have pierced any defence.

All Guildford could muster in response was a lucky intercept try from the only mistake the Admirals made in defence throughout the whole game.

Early in the second half, Guildford failed to heed repeated warnings from the referee about their high tackling and consequently lost one of their players to the bin.

He was shortly followed there by another for ill-discipline with both indiscretions symptomatic of a team frustrated by the Admirals’ snuffling of every one of their attacks.

With a two man advantage, Greenwich played some impressive rugby at times.

Four more tries were run in by Louis Newton, Anthony Johnson, top points scorer Paul Jackson and Ben Johnson.

Man of the match went to Woods, who dominated the midfield throughout and was at the heart of everything great the Admirals accomplished.
