Colin Ridgway was delighted with Blackheath’s performance in the 21-17 victory over London Scottish.

The hosts, playing at their Well Hall ground, struck first as Jake Lloyd cut inside and Mark Cooke crossed over for a converted try.

Chris Knight switched infield for a second try and, despite some resistance from the visitors, Blackheath edged out a narrow win.

Club director of rugby Ridgway said: “I’m really pleased. Everything we’ve been working on in training was translated onto the pitch.

“The 12 new players we brought in have performed very well.

“Of course there’s still plenty to work on over the next two weeks, but if you’d asked me before the game I couldn’t have expected more against a competitive London Scottish side.”

Ridgway was also pleased with the new Well Hall pitch, adding: “The new pitch was fantastic and the stands were impressive.

“There was a good crowd for a first pre-season game and the whole day was worthy of a visit of a Championship side.”
