Bromley secured a fine bonus point win away from home against a Gillingham Anchorians side which have struggled to find form this season.

Bromley started brightly but were unable to take advantage of home ill-discipline and struggled to create decisive chances.

David Banfield finally broke the deadlock with the opening try for Bromley, which was converted by Patrick Moore.

Although Bromley looked dominant in most aspects of play, the Gillingham No. 9 closed the gap with a well taken penalty.

The home side were now very much in the game and had Bromley on the back foot, forcing a succession of penalties which eventually led to a try in the corner, well converted by the No 9 to make it 10-7.

The Bromley response was swift and following a good passage of play, Tom Standfield scored under the posts; Patrick Moore converted to make it 10-14.

With half time and a narrow lead looming, Bromley blitzed Gillingham with two swift tries.

Aidan Devane took the ball on an excellent line and Kieran Leeper scored a fine individual try.

Patrick Moore converted both to provide the visitors with a 10-28 lead at half-time.

Bromley started the second half in the same vein, Lewis Carter scoring in the corner after just two minutes.

With the bonus point secured and a win for Bromley almost inevitable, the game became tad humdrum but James Powell livened things up with a fine kick ahead which he followed to score a try.

The conversion by Moore made it 10-40 and Bromley were out of sight.

Nevertheless, Gillingham were determined to finish on a high and continued to push forward.

Their endeavour was rewarded with a final flourish of three tries to make the final score 27-40 in Bromley’s favour.

The win maintained Bromley's position in second place in London 3 South East.
