Westcombe Park were narrowly beaten 14-13 by Hertford on Saturday.
Last year Hertford brought a lengthy Combe run of wins to a halt by a point, and it was much the same this term.
Two early Richard Gregg penalties gave Hertford a 6-0 lead at the interval which was extended to nine soon after the break.
Combe started the second half in better fashion and a James Cameron penalty closed the gap after 14 minutes.
Five minutes later Sam Randall used his speed to cross the line to provide the visitors' with a lead.
Cameron converted and added a penalty to give Combe a 3-9 lead.
Hertford fought back admirably, however, and Jake Hobbs went over for the win in the closing minutes.
