Old Gravesendians sunk to their third successive defeat on Saturday as HSBC marched to a 54-22 victory.
The Old Gs travelled to HSBC in high hopes but were soon on the back foot, struggling to retain possession against the strong hosts.
HSBC’s large ball carriers were causing Old Gs problems which, combined with some poor defence, saw the home side seal a four try bonus point before half time – going into the break at 26-3.
In the second half the set piece began to secure good possession and the Old Boys looked to move the ball wide.
Scores from Chris Daniels and Matt Thompson (2) saw Old Gs get themselves back into the contest.
However, several lapses in defence, poor line speed and tired defenders allowed HSBC to run in a number of additional tries, including one with the last play of the game, to seal a well deserved 54-22 victory.
Old Gravesendians will need to work hard on defence during the week as they host a strong Hastings side next Saturday.
