Westcombe Park can have few complaints after being well beaten 28-7 at Hertford, writes Bruce Mackenzie.

The Orpington visitors were second best throughout and never looked like preventing their opponents completing a league double over them this season.

Hertford caught Combe by surprise early on pouncing on a loose ball for the first score from Josh Corcoran and went further ahead on a counter attack through Taylor Mosen.

James Russell successfully kicked the extras on both occasions as the hosts opened up a useful 14-0 advantage.

That was halved on the stroke of half-time, Combe holding the upper hand in the scrum and making it count with a penalty try award converted by Iain Gordon (pictured).

The visitors continued to dominate after the restart, but failed to add to their tally as Hertford rode their luck with both determined and desperate defence.

And it was the home side who finished the stronger with two late tries under the posts from George Elliot and Russell, making Russell’s conversions a mere formality.

This Saturday Westcombe Park return to Goddington Dene to host Amersham & Chiltern (2pm).
