Blackheath 37 v Rosslyn Park 21.

Twenty-nine unanswered points in fewer minutes overturned a 13-point deficit and left Rosslyn Park in tatters, conceding a penalty try at the death, and bereft of even a losing bonus point.

After Club wing Ryan Squires slotted an easy penalty in the first minute of a high tempo opening period, two scores from inside-centre Kiba Richards on nine minutes, and number-eight Hugo Ellis on the stroke of half-time, sandwiched a try from Squires to leave Park leading 15-8 at the interval.

Full-back Louis Grimoldby's second penalty and a drop-goal from fly-half Scott Sneddon eased the visitors further in front soon after the re-start, and with their scrum in total command, Park looked set for the victory they needed to keep the pressure on Ealing Trailfinders at the top of National League One.

However, a break from left-wing Geoff Griffiths following an overthrown line-out lifted the pressure and, with ball moved quickly up field, Alex Gallagher crossed in the left corner for a converted try.

A line-out move saw Club number-eight Ollie Lyons send hooker Harry Fry slithering across to bring the hosts to within a point, and with Park down to 14-men, the hosts kept the ball alive through numerous phases before, with a four-on-three overlap available, Gallagher weaved through a dishevelled defence for the full-back’s second try and a Blackheath lead.

Squires added the conversion and a penalty, and with Park losing a second player to the sin-bin, a five-metre scrum in added time yielded the penalty try which moved Blackheath clear.

National League One takes a break during the festive period with Blackheath’s next match away to Loughborough Students on Saturday 3rd January before they return to rectory Field for the visit of Old Albanian a week later.
