Old Gravesendians defeated Shooters Hill in Kent One on Saturday.

The hosts started well and completed a clever backs move after seven minutes to score the opening try, the scrum half slotting the conversion with ease.

Parity was restored on 17 minutes as Angus McGill crashed over and Pete Deady converted.

It looked like anyone’s game but on 32 minutes Old Gs worked another try but missed the conversion.

The referee had warned Gravesendians about infringing at the breakdown and having done it again, he sin binned one of the home side’s pack.

Shoots took full advantage, at least for a few minutes, by scoring another try but Deady was then sin binned for a knock-on and with both teams down to 14-men, Old G’s added a penalty on the stroke of half-time to make it 15-12.

After the break Shoots found themselves in the lead for the first time after a try by Dave Viney, but again the conversion was missed.

The game was very even and Shoots pushed for that decisive opening but sadly it never came.

In defence they were a match for Old Gs but they gave away two penalties within kicking distance and the home side’s accurate scrum-half secured six more points.

Shoots defended their line, trying to keep within seven for the bonus point.

But their hopes were crushed by another well-worked backs move that saw the Old Gs centre burst through the defensive line to claim a final converted try.
